Stephen B. Holley & Elizabeth Bressler lived in Newport, Perry County, Pennsylvania during the 19th century. Our first record of Stephen was when he married Elizabeth, daughter of the widow Mariah Bressler of Oliver Township whose husband, John, had died in 1833. Mariah's maiden name was Schmidt/Smith.
Stephen and Elizabeth were married at Elizabeth's home in December 1846, and moved to Mifflin County where Stephen worked as a carpenter. Charles Luther was born in 1847 and Mary Anna in 1849. Stephen and Elizabeth moved back to Perry County where, in 1851, they bought 48 acres in Juniata Township from George Peterman for a mortgage of $500. Another son, George W., was born in 1852, followed by Samuel A. in 1854, John Franklin in 1856, (died in 1858), Joseph DeForest in 1859, and William Baty in 1862. The known descendants of these children are listed on the following pages.
We are currently trying to learn the date of Stephen's death and the cemetery: possibly in Juniata or Mifflin County, PA. There were other Holleys in Pennsylvania in the early 1800s, and we are seeking to discover their connection to Stephen. He supposedly was from "Danville," and census records indicate he was born in Pennsylvania or Connecticut.
