In 1782 Jonathan went with his father Col. John to Washington County, Tn., then
to N.C. and resided there until 1810. A member of the legislature (Senate 7th
General Assembly representing Carter and Washington Counties for years 1807-1809.
In 1810 he went to Blount County and settled at Clover Hill. 1811-1821, he represented
Blount (House 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th General Assembly)
also 1825-l831. Represented Blount 13th Assembly 1825-1826, Monroe County 1827-l829
where he died. He was a Justice of the Peace. In 1822 he was elected by Carter
Co. and surrounding counties Col. of Light Horse Regiment. He enlisted as Pvt.
9-23-1813 in Capt. Joseph Calloway's Co. E. Tn. Mtd. Inf. Enlisted again 9-22-1814
as Pvt. in Capt. Reuben Tipton's E. Tn. Vol. Mtd. Inf. He was in War of 1812.
He served in brother Jacob's company in 1791. A Soldier and Politician and interested
in public affairs. Had 13 children and was buried in Loudon County. His grave
marker read:
