Half of this plaque is blank and a not below it tells the following story: "An amusing story is told about this wooden tablet. One half of which is dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant William Glascott .... The tablet originally read that Glascott had been frozen to death on his return from the village .... Some say that it was erected by Captain John Moberly as a warning to other members of the garrison that it was most unwise to indulge excessively in spiritous liquors. The story goes that Glascott and and a companion got uproariously drunk at Penetanguishene and on the way home their horse ran away. Pitching the two men into a snow bank, where they were found next morning. Glascott was frozen to death and the other had a bad case of pneumonia. The sick man however, was not expected to live so the double tablet was prepared. In the meantime the man recovered, was posted away and never heard of again. So the tablet has remained blank to this day.
