Notes copied from the Register. 1. "here is nothing sett Down betwixt 1592 & 1599 through ---- negligence for VI years forgotton I John Spicer was not ------ to be Parson here till 1608. As will appear hereafter" 2. "A.D 1649 1st Charles 2d omitted" "The Rectory of Leckhampstead being now under Sequestration & ye Lawful Incumbent being taken away from his duty (viz. Mr Thomas Langton) no care was taken by those who came in upon ye sequestration, to contimue ye register. In ye year 1653 the powers then in usurpation ordered a recorder in Every parish should be chosen to keepe an Account=Booke of all Marriages, Births, (not Baptisms) & Burials. Thomas Cox ye clerk of this parish was chosen to this office, whose Account followeth in these next pages." "A.D. 1651 3d Charles 2d Not Registered" 3. In 1730 whoever was making entries in the register started putting the date in the right hand margin. Some of these dates do not appear on the photocopies I have. I appologise for this. 4. "NB The Marriages for these years - 1563, 1564,1566,1568,1570,1571,1572, 1573,1575,1576,1578,1579, 1580,1581,1583,1586,1589, 1593,1594,1595,1596,1597, 1598,1649,1651, are omit- =ted in this Register thro the negligence of former Time as appears from ye aforesaid Account" 5. "NB - About the Year 1745 (OS) - In the eighteenth year of the Reign of King George the 2nd a Pestitential Distemper raged among the Horned Cattle in this Nation which continued for several years. About the same Time happened a great swarm of Locusts destroyed the Fruits of the Earth. On Thursday February the 8th & on Thursday March the 6th the year 1749 this Nation was afflicted with two very great & shocking Earth Quakes: which was attended the year following with the Sudden Deaths of 8 Peers of this Kingdom of Great Britain In the Month of November in the Year 1750 The Ho... were troubled with Sudden & Violent Colds; which carried off several; & struck a great Terror into the People of this Land. In the Month of March in the Year 1750 - this Nation was afflicted with very high & pestilent winds; which continued for several days, & did great Damages to the Cathedral & Parochial Churches of this Kingdom: & to the dwelling Houses of the Inhabitants of this Land In the Year 1732 - John Scarrolle, a youth about ?? years of age of the parish of Thornborough was unfortunately drowned at Long Bridge on the side of the River that lyes contiguous to the Parish of Leckhampstead in the County of Bucks; & was buried here July 24th - age 19" 6. The following was written after the burials of 1760: "The greatest No of Burials was in 1729 v p 190th of ye Old Reg'r when 14 persons dy'd: the least No (being one only) in 1751 ye Medium between these extremes being in 1750 ye yr commencing from Mar 25 & not from Jan 1st being 2 months, & 27 Days sooner than in the following year: wn ye New System was Introduced."
