INDEX

[545] Richard was the first chairman of the Torrumbarry and Patho Cemetery Trust which was gazetted in 1878.

Richard married Margaret Wannop who died at the age of 32 from Tuberculosis. This left their daughter Agnes without a mother. Agnes went to live with her maternal grandmother (Agnes Geddes/Wannop) and her father continued to work for a living.

1898 Electoral Roll: Richard Thomas was a farmer at Torrumburry. Farm name was Brandon Park. It seems the property, named 'Bandon Park' was owned by his father George, with Richard doing the work to keep it going.

Some time after this, Richard then went to New Zealand where he remarried Sarah Noyes and had a son Gordon, born 1903. Gordon was in communication with Agnes for many years and I clearly remember Agnes and Enid visiting him in Nz, and also corresponding regularly. Gordon married and his son was Brian.

Richard returned to Australia in 1912 to work as manager of the butter factory in Tumburrumba, NSW. Ill health forced him to seek hospital treatment in Sydney where he died after an illness of 6 weeks. He is buried in an unmarked grave at Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney.

[587] Sarah was born in Belvoir (Wodonga area), the daughter of Abigail Johnson and Edwin Noyes. Her siblings were Edwin William born Wangaratta in 1867, Isabella Abigail born Belvoir in 1869, Eliza born Wodonga in 1874, Alexander Walker born Keiwa in 1876, Margaret born Wodonga in 1879, died 1879.

Went to NZ at age of 5 in 1876

[590] Living in Auckland at Pt Chevalier, Rose Rd, Grey Lynn, Sussex St, Grey Lynn, Rose Rd, Grey Lynn and then Ariki St, Grey Lynn.
His wife Eileen died in Ariki St.
Gordon's mother was still living at this time and he bought a house in Atkinson Rd, Titirangi where he cared for her until she was hospitalised at Greenlane Hospital where she died 14 July 1966.

[1391] William was listed as a Publican when his son Joseph was baptised at Tettenhall. At the time of his will (1847) he was listed as a husbandman in the village of Trescott, Tettenhall, Staffs. Richard ALLEN, wheelwright, of Trescott and Joseph LAW, keeper of Ag thrashing machines, of Orton were executors of the will.

His wife Ann was a widow at the time of her marriage. Her maiden name is unknown at this stage

[1400] Ann had two neices who were named in William's will. They were Elizabeth CLEMSON and Eliza JONES.
