Colombi Youth Dies Following Accident
--
Funeral services were held Wednesday for 19-year-old Andrew S. Colombi of
Fort Bragg, who died Sunday of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident Friday
night.
The accident happened at 11:05 p.m., Friday, on Pudding Creek Road, the
highway patrol reported. Patricia D. Martinez, 48, of Fort Bragg, was driving
east bound at about 40 mph when she started to pass two slow moving
motorcycles. She pulled into the west bound lane where Andrew Colombi was
riding a dirt motorcycle.
Martinez did not see Colombi approaching and her 1971 Ford LTD collided
head-on into his motorcycle. Colombi sustained major injuries and was
airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died Sunday.
Martinez was not injured. She was arrested at the scene for felony driving
under the influence.
The highway patrol reported that Colombi and Martinez were using their
safety equipment. There was no report of injuries to the other motorcyclists.
Please see Andrew Colombi's obituary [below] on Page 6.

29? Jun 2000 Fort Bragg [Calif.] Observer
--
Andrew S. Colombi, a Fort Bragg resident all of his 19 years, died at Santa
Rosa Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Jun 25, 2000.
Born in Fort Bragg on July 11, 1980, into the respected Colombi family, his
parents are Steven and Arlene (Lemmon) Colombi. He was a 1998 graduate of Fort
Bragg High School.
With motorcycles his passion, he worked in sales and repairs at his father's
well know store, S. Colombi Sales, on North Main Street in Fort Bragg. At the
early age of six, he learned to ride motorcycles. And, taking after his dad,
he loved to fix things. He also worked at William F. Colombi Logging. When he
wasn't riding or working, he enjoyed camping and hunting.
He is survived by his parents, Steven and Arlene Colombi of Fort Bragg;
sister, Kristene Colombi of Fort Bragg; grandparents, Bill and Jean Colombi
and Lily and Loyal Lemmon, all of Fort Bragg; and his many friends. "No words
can describe how much he'll be missed," his father said. "He was loved by
everyone."

Jun 28. Officiating was Pastor Terry Cole of First Presbyterian Church of Fort
Bragg. Interment was at Rose Memorial Park.

E-Mail from Steven Colombi on Fri, 20 Dec 2002
--
Andrew Steven Colombi was born 7-11-1980 in Fort Bragg CA. He was hit by
a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle on 6-23-2000. He was removed from
life support on 6-25-2000 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
His injuries were so severe that if he had survived, he would have only been
a head on a table hooked up to respirators. No one would want to be in that
torment.
This decision was made by Arlene, Kristene, Loyal, Lilly, my sisters, and
I, and was recommended by all of the doctors.
After being removed from the life support he died in my arms over an hour
later.
We learned later that he had recently prayed with a friend's mother and
had accepted Jesus as his Savior; we are so grateful to know that in Jesus
Christ's gift to us that we can be with him again when our time comes.
