Bragg, at Mitchell February 10, 1912. Judge F. A. Whipple officiated.

George C. Lemmon's middle name was Calvin according to neice Eleanor J
Lemmon Holberg.
Virtually all Lemmons are of medium build with the exception of Loyal
Lemmon Sr and Geo C. Lemmon, who was an inch or two taller than Loyal.
According to Robert Lemmon Sr, one of Loyal's sons, they inherited their
stocky builds from their grandmother Margaret Oberholzer, Angeline Richards'
mother. Bob Sr remembers the time at Caspar Lumber Company's Camp One east
of Fort Bragg, CA, that Geo C. picked up the frame for a cast iron stove and
asked his mother, Mary Jane Sallinen Lemmon, where she wanted it.
Despite his stocky build Geo C. was the first descendant of Geo Thos Lemmon
to attend college, spending a couple of years at Santa Rosa Junior College. He
apparently used knowledge gained there while working for an electic power
generation plant by inventing a dynamic stabilizer for electric generators.
However, since he had done the work on "company time," he received no
royalties for his creation.
During the depression of the 1930s when the lumber companies shut down, Geo
C. was working on the construction of a power plant on the Rogue River at
Prospect, OR, northeast of Medford, OR. He managed to get brother Loyal a job
operating a drag line. [The "technology" of the day for both lumbering and
constructing power plants consisted of donkey engines, drag lines, and skid
trails.]
Bob Sr does not know if Geo C. ever visited the house largely built for
Loyal by brother-in-law Frank Sallinen on Highway 1 south of Fort Bragg, CA,
since he was attending San Jose State College at the time, but when he got his
first teaching job at Shaws Flat Elementary between the old gold mining towns
of Sonora and Colombia, he again heard of his Uncle Geo C. While supplementing
his small salary as a teacher by working at Panero's Union 76 station in
Sonora a Union 76 gasoline dealer said that a fellow in Copperopolis claimed
to be his uncle.
With the supplies of copper from Southeast Asia cut off, Bob Sr checked
about 1942 and found that Geo C was superintendent of a reopened copper mine.
Also, he was the postmaster of the small town of Copperopolis, CA. And Velma,
his second wife ran a small diner or cafe next to (in the same bldg as) the
post office. As more copper mines were reopened, smaller mines such as the
one in Copperopolis were likely closed. Bob Sr was drafted into military
service in mid Apr 1945; when the war ended and he returned to Sonora in Nov
1945, Geo C. disappeared, in large part because copper was no longer needed in
such large quantities.
As neice Eleanor Lemmon Holberg said of Uncle Geo C., "He was a drifter."
Bob Sr thought he had gone to South America. [Since Peru and Chile were
developing their copper mines, it's likely Geo C. was in either or both
countries for a time.]
The Social Security Death Index shows that Geo C. died in Apr 1971 in Brea,
Orange County, CA. And his second wife, Velma, also died there in Apr 1976.
