(II) Herbert G., son of Newton and Kate (Griffin) Aldrich, was born in the town of Luzerne, Warren county, New York, Dec. 3, 1860. He received his early education in the Gouverneur Wesleyan Seminary, and was graduated in the class of 1880. He entered Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., and was graduated A.B., class of 1884. He then entered Harvard University, where he pursued the course in the law school, and was graduated L.L. B. in the class of 1888. After completing his university course he returned to Gouverneur, N.Y., where he associated with his father in the lumber business. He is vice-president and director of the Aldrich Paper Company, and interested in other business enterprises.
He is a Republican in politics, and takes an active interest in public affairs.
He is an attendant and liberal supporter of the Presbyterian church of Gouverneur, and a member of the Republican Club, of the City of New York.
He married (first) in 1890, Jennie A., daughter of James Loucks, who bore him a daughter, Ruth. He married (second) April 20, 1905, Mrs. Ann Fish, of New York City, and has a son, Robert.
