Thursday, January 2, 1958 Obituaries Fred Holldorf Fred John Christian Holldorf was born in Wahrstorf, Germany on October 6, 1868. He was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany. After being released from his term of military service in Germany in June of 1890, he left for America in the Fall of the same year, and came to Aurora, Ill., where he worked for a time, before leaving for South Dakota, where he settled in the vicinity of Canova. It was while at Canova that he met Ida Koepsell, who became his bride on May 23, 1901. Twelve children were born of this marriage. His wife preceded him in death at the age of 45 years, on September 27, 1928. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on November 13, 1907. In February of 191I the couple moved from South Dakota to Minnesota, settling in the vicinity of Campbell, where they lived until September, 1914, when they came to Glenwood City and settled on a farm in the Town of Forest. After the death of his wife, he continued on the farm until March of 1943, when he had a sale and went to stay with several of his children until November of 1944, when he went to make his home with his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. W. Voeltz. He lived there until May 23, 1954, when he was taken to the Graff Nursing Home near Menomonie. On Nov. 7, 1957, he was taken to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, where he submitted to surgery on November 19, and where he remained until his death on December 23, at 5:15 pm. He had reached the ripe age of 89 years, 2 months and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his pasing 12 children, Walter of Emerald; Hilda, Mrs. Wm. Voeltz, Emerald; Anna, Mrs. Frank Winberg, New Richmond; Olga, Mrs. Roy Fox, Ontario, Canada; Mathilde, Mrs. Max Kamm, Glenwood City; Henry, Glenwood City; Albert, Glenwood City; Fred, Jr., Clear Lake; Ella, Mrs. Edward Klauser, Downey, Calif.; Esther, Mrs. Edward Zastrow and Reinhold, both of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; and Idell, Mrs. Donald Gast, Emerald. 40 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on December 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Herbert Enser officiating.
