Will Notes for John McKeehan

John McKeehan's will was recorded in Carlisle, Will Book "D", page 140.

"In the name of God, amen. This 21 day of October A.D. 1782, I John McKeehan
of West Pennsboro township, Cumberland County, State of Pennsylvania, being
sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory in calling to mind the
mortality of my body and that it is appointed to all men to die, I do hereby
make and ordain this my last will and testament.

And first of all, I render my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the
earth to be buried in a Christian manner at the discretion of my executors,
and as to what earthly estate it has pleased God to bless me with in this
life, I give, devise and dispose of in the following manner:
In the first place I do order that all my just debts and funeral charges
be paid.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son Samuel McKeehan 20 shillings lawful
money of Pennsylvania if demanded.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son-in-law, William Appleby, 7 shillings
6 pence.
Item, I give and bequeath to my son, Samuel, oldest son, one new Bible,
likewise to my son John, third son, one new Bible, and also one new Bible to
Elizabeth Appleby, that now lives with me. These Bibles to be purchased by
my executors with the money due to me in the country.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth one new Bible to be
purchased as aforesaid. I also give to her the bed and bedding I now sleep
on, and one cow, and 80 pounds in lawful money of Pennsylvania, 30 pounds to
be paid my son, James McKeehan, and 50 pounds to be paid by my son Benjamin
McKeehan out of other legacies I shall hereafter leave to them, provided she
shall not be entitled to have any more of it than from time to time be judged
necessary for her sustenance by my executors, and she shall not be entitled
to any interest in the same while she lives with my son Benjamin and get her
living from him, but if she ceases to live there, she shall be entitled to
interest for the whole of her money in their hands, and at the time of her
decease shall be buried in a Christianlike manner, and if any remainder is in
their hands at that time, it should be their own, or, if it has been drawn
from them for her use what remains after these charges are paid, they are to
have it again.
And as to the place I now live on and the place I bought from Patton that
my son James lives on, I do allow the whole to be divided in equal shares
quantity and quality betwixt my sons James McKeehan and Benjamin McKeehan and
I give and bequeath to their heirs and assigns forever to be at their sole
and absolute disposal when and how they please, and I do hereby appoint and
ordain my trusty friend and son John McKeehan and my friend and son-in-law
William Appleby, to be my sole executors of this my last will and testament,
and I do hereby disallow, revoke and annul all other wills and testaments and
executors by me before time made or named and I do allow and confirm this and
no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year
above written.
Signed John McKeehan
