Records There. (Rosemary Steenstra) Son of George Allen Ralph Allen was stated as born 1613. (Err Parents married after Ralph's birth)

On 23 Mar 1654, before becoming a Quaker, he was among the largest contributors to a fund to provide powder and bullets to fight the Indians, and on 29 May 1655 he contributed 10 shillings toward the cost of a meeeting house.

Ralph and his brother William were among the 28 Quakers imprisoned in Boston in 1659, then freed by order of King Charles II. Before they were released shortly before 13 Jun 1661, they were whipped through several towns. This was accomplished by stripping them, both men and women to the waist, tying them to the back of a cart slowly pulled through the town while they were lashed a predetermined number of times. He removed to Sandwich, MA after this.

In 1663 and 1672 he bought shares in the Dartmouth purchase. In Jun 1664, on behalf of all the purchasers, he contracted to build a mill there, but never made any permanent settlement there. In 1675 and 1678 he conveyed most of his shares to his children, most of whom had settled in Dartmouth. On 5 Jul 1669, he was granted liberty to keep a ferry at or near Pocasset, and to transport passengers between Rhode Island and the mainland. In May 1671, and again in May 1680, he was chosen Surveyor of Highways. His name is frequently mentioned after 1675 in the minutes of the Sandwich Monthly Meeting, one of the oldest Quaker organizations in America.
