David Sands Titus(b. 1 MAR 1802, d. 24 JAN 1879)
Note: Son of Gilbert Titus and Jane (Hoag) Titus. David S. Titus received a common school education in Dutchess County, and became familiar with the labors of the farm in his youthful days. He started as a butcher, carrying beeves and poultry to New York City. Afterward he opened a store for the sale of general merchandise in La Grange, operating it for about a year. Going then to Poughkeepsie, he bought a shop, and for eight years conveyed passengers and freight from that place to New York City, being also connected with the grocery business. After marriage wanting to make a permanent home for himself and family, he made a prospecting trip to Cayuga County, making the journey in a one-horse lumber wagon. Two years later he moved his family and all of his worldly effects, among the later being a Negro slave, to Cayuga County, coming from Montezuma by way of the canal, and from there by wagon. On arrival he opened the tavern later known as the Titus House. In the capacity of "mine host" he entertained many distinguished quests, who became his lifelong friends, notable among them being, William H Steward and Judge Folger. David S. Titus was familiarly known in this vicinity as Major Titus, having won the title by holding that office in a training regiment of his district. For three years he acted as Collector of Tolls on the canal at Montezuma, his wife and son Hiram taking charge of the tavern during his absence. He subsequently purchased a farm, which later was occupied by his youngest son; and here spent his last years.

Edmond Titus(b. 1630, d. 2 FEB 1715)
Note: Son of Robert Titus and Hannah (Titus). Edmund Titus became a Quaker in Connecticut and lived and died in that faith. He settled at Westbury. He went to New England from England with his brother and father in 1635. He lived with them until 1650 when he then moved to Hemstead, Long Island in company with William Stiles, then upwards of 100 years of age and who it is said traveled on foot from Rehobath, Massachusetts, Long Island, and lived to be 116 years old.

He purchased the proprietary right of Timothy Wood one of the original potenters of the town of Hemstead. He received as his portion on a general division of the land, a "lot" at Westbury; upon which he established his home, which in 1890 was still owned and occupied by his descendants of the same name.

He and his wife Martha became members of the "Society of Friends by convincement and ever after remained active and respected members of that religious body. The following is from the records of Westbury Meeting 1715. "Edmund Titus one that receiveth ye truth many years since and lived and dyed in it, in his latter days his eyes grew dim that he could not see and thick of hearing all of which he bore very patiently - in the time of his last sickness his daughter Pheby Field standing by him he said "My life is in Christ my God," with more comfortable words - his last words were these, "I have put away all filthiness and superfluity of haughtiness I have received with meekness ye engrafted word that is able to save the soul" and soon departed this life in a quiet frame of spirit, sensible to the last - the 7th 2nd month:, 1715 age 85 years."
