Note: Son of John Schenck and Mary "Polly" (Quackenbush) Schenck. Nelson Schenck, a farmer, retired in Springport. For more than eighty years he witnessed many transformations in the country: the forests giving way before the axe of the pioneer, the log cabins of the forebears being replaced by commodious frame houses, and the hamlets of the early time developing into thriving villages and populous town and cities. Although not yet born when the first settlements were made, his parents contributed pioneer labor. He is of worthy Dutch ancestry, his grandfather Cornelius Schenck(by some records), having emigrated from Holland to United States in early Colonial times, being among the original settlers of New Jersey, were he spent his retirement.
