Note*Peter Howey probably moved from Pike County to Lackawanna Countyin the 1850's in search of better economic conditions. Most likely there was communication with Howey families who had moved there earlier. It appears that sometime after 1850 he was hired to manage a farm in Benton Twp owned by widow Hulda Halstead.
No obituary or other record of death and buroal has been found. Mabel Howey Robbins, Peter's grand daughter, remembered going to the funeral in a horse drawn sleigh with much snow on the ground. She recalled the year as 1894 rather than 1900.1

    In the name of God Amen this ____teenth Day of February An. Dom. 1748/9. I Joseph Hovey of the Township of Abington & County of Philadelphia being sick and weak in Body but of sound Mind & memory and ____________ do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. First of all I _____ and recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it humbly beseeching & hopeing for the most Gracious acceptance of it through the mediation of the Lord Jesus Christ my only Saviour & my body I commend to the Earth to be decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter to be named. And as for my Worldly Goods which it hath pleased God to bestow upon me in this life, I give and dispose of them in the following manner viz.
    Imp. (Latin for First, I believe - RTH) my will is that all my just Debts & funeral Charges be duly paid.
    Then, I give and bequeath unto Eleanor, my beloved wife one Feather Bed, with its Furniture, one cow which she shall choose and all the (flax?). Item, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter, Rachel all her mothers Cloathes and Forty Shillings in Money to bear Interest from the Date hereof till she arrive (?) of age to receive it It being a Legacy of my Father intrusted with me for her. Item my will is that my Land within the Forks of the Delaware be sold by my Executor as soon as may be and to best advantage for the use of my beloved wife and Children and I do hereby give my Executors presently to be named full power and authority to sell and dispose of said Land and make and Execute such Deed or instrument of conveyance as shall be needfull & requisite for that purpose. Item I give and bequeath the money _____ from the Sale of my Land aforesaid Together all my Estate in Good (line missing here?)Chattels not before bequeathed unto Eleanor my beloved wife and unto my beloved children Rachel, Maryan (now I see why this was transcribed as Morgan---RTH) , Samuel, Agnes & Margaret to be equally divided Between them save to my said wife two Shares which I hereby Bequeath, unto her with the use, Interest and profit arising or accruing from the whole to assist her in the Education of sd. (Witness) Property4 April 1808Isaac Howey was mentioned as a child and heir at law of Isaac Howey deceased; Davis was the administrator of the estate of Isaac Howey. There was a contract between Isaac Howey and John Howey to sell the property at the time of Isaac's death. John sought relief from the New Jersey state legislature to authorize Davis to fulfill the contract. An Act of the Legislature dated 12 Nov 1807 authorized the sale. The property was 63 acres 2 roods 16 perches on the road from Swedesboro to Oldman's Creek situate in Woolwich, Gloucester Co. Sale was completed on 4 Apr 1808 for one dollar. A further sum of $250 was paid. Part of the land was that sold by Issac Richman, wife Rachel and William Mulford on 13 Sep. 1806. Sale recorded 11 April 1808. Deed also mentions children and heirs at law of Issac Howey deceased. They are Mary Howey, Benjamin Howey, Rebecca Howey, Isaac Howey, Ann Howey, Hope Howey and Martha Howey.5
