Jacob Horsch and Elizabeth

Jacob Horsch was born in Baden, Germany about 1811. Elizabeth was also born in Baden around 1817. They married in Baden and had two children, Peter and Catherine Elizabeth. Peter was born around 1844 and Catherine was born in 1851.

The family came to America before 1860, and settle in the Pennfield Township of Calhoun County, Michigan. Peter enlisted in the Union army on September 23, 1862 at the age of 19. He was assigned to Company A, 7th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on December 13, 1862. For three years the 7th Cavalry Regiment fought battles in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. He mustered out on December 15, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Peter’s sister, Catherine married Eugene D. Gibbs on April 5, 1874. They had three children. Peter married Mary Gibbs on February 22, 1875. Mary was Eugene Gibbs’ younger sister. Peter and Mary had two children. Peter died in August 1908.
