CLAIM NEGROES ARE ORGANZED TO ROB WHITES Savannah, Tenn., April 24 (1920) Two more negroes were arrested here today on a charge of being implicated in the brutal murder of Harry Allen, prominent merchant, who resided eight miles west of here. Allen was killed Friday. Six other negroes, charge with the crime, were spirited away from the city to prevent a lynching. One of them confessed to the crime at Corinth. All six were later taken to Jackson for safekeeping. Ben Davis, one of the two arrested today, tried to escape and was brought down with a shot in the leg. It is said the negroes have an organization near the section where Allen resided and their plan is to rob white persons. According to the confession which one of the negroes made in Corinth they entered Allen’s store and beat him to death with a ledge hammer while he was bending over an egg case, sorting eggs. He never knew they were present. They then robbed the store. The farmers have promised the officials that they will not harm the two negroes now in jail here. They will be tried Tuesday.
