John Anderson Harris, Jr. |

John Anderson Harris, Jr. was my great
grandmother Dora's oldest brother. He married Willie
Walston of Weeksville, NC. John Sr. lived with his son in NC until he died
in 1922. John worked for a time as a steam shovel operator digging
the Panama Canal (this occupation was among the highest paid, $310/month).
When he came home from Panama he brought back a parrot with green
feathers. They kept it in a wire cage on the screened back porch, next to
the kitchen, at 210 Poplar Ave. Dorris let Lolita out into the porch to
fly around. This parrot could talk as well.
