Wootten History

At left are my Wootten great aunts when they were little girls: Virginia, Ida, and Edie. Since Ida was born in 1910, this picture was probably taken in 1911.

Virginia Frances Antoinette b. 5/6/1901
Edith Bailey b. 5/3/1904
Ida Lavinia  b. 12/18/1910
Their brothers: Stafford Scott b.5/22/1913 and Harry Bailey b. 4/13/1917

A few years before she died, Ida wrote a Wootten family history, her rememberances of her family.

Their parents, Stafford Bailey Wootten and Lavinia Antoinette Scott married 4/12/1898 in Elizabeth City, NC. He was 25, she was 14. Their first child, William Stafford, died after 7 months and their fourth child, Herbert Bailey, Jr. died at 1 1/2 years.
Stafford Bailey Wootten here in the hat. The Wootten family was from York County so I imagine that's where this was photographed. He was born 12/17/1876, the son of A. Herbert (Hubard?) Wootten and Rebecca Frances Bailey Wootten. Rebecca was first married to Herbert's older brother John Wootten, and had 4 children by John (Alice, Jeffison, and Ida -- all died young). John died 11/2/1866 and Rebecca married Herbert 10/30/1867. Stafford had a sister named Anna, who died when she was 10 years old. He died 4/4/1934.
Wootten Bible Notes
Lavinia Antoinette Scott was born 7/18/1884. Her parents were John and Anna Scott. John was 75 when she was born. The Scotts were from Smithfield, VA. She was an orphan by age 6 and lived with various family members. She moved to Hampton to live with her older brother and cousins. Poopaw's family would say that she was a descendant of Francis Scott Key. She died in October 1948.
