Charles Gaston Harris

Gaston was the president of C. G. Harris Gas Company. His brother Vernon was the vice president. On the back of the long picture of Gaston to the left, my grandmother wrote "Millionaire, first person in Berkeley to own a car." Gaston married Sammie Leigh. There is a story that Gaston died of sleeping sickness. I'm not sure of the origin of the two large pictures below except that they were taken by a photographer in Elizabeth City (probably when the family lived there). You can make out Gaston and John in the front row. Is the other little boy Vernon, and the girls Ercel and Annie? To me this looks like Sunday School, a wedding or a fancy family reunion. Wouldn't be interesting to know?

When Gaston got sick, his brother helped to care for him. During the day, Gaston would often sit in a rocking chair in the dining room.
Above: house that Gaston built in Ocean Park for his mother. Who is that sitting on the porch?
