The County Recorders in  Ohio kept a record of soldiers' Civil War discharges. This one
I obtained from the Washington County Recorder.
Finley W. Taylor was 18 years old when he volunteerd, August 18, 1861.  He was a private
in the 18th Regiment, Company C.  He served three years and was mustered out November,
1864.  He is buried in Athens Co, OH.

To all whom It may concern know ye that Finley W Taylor a Private of Captain John M.
Benedict's Company (C) 18th Regiment of Ohio Infantry volunteers who was enrolled on the nineteenth day of August one thousand eight-hundred and sixty-one to serve three years or
during the war is hereby discharged from the service of the United States this ninth day of
November 1864 at Columbus Ohio by reason of expiration of term of service.  (No objection
to his being re-enlisted is known to exist.) Said Finley W. Taylor was born in Washington
Co. in the State of Ohio is Eighteen years of age[this refers to his age in 1861 when he volunteered], five feet 11 inches high, Dark complexion, hazel eyes, Dark hair and by occupatiion when enrolled a Farmer. Given at Columbus Ohio this ninth day of November
1864.  This sentence will be erased should there be anything in the conduct or physical
condition of the soldier rendering unfit for the Army. (AGO no 99)

Oath of Identity
Finley W Tailor [sic] of the town of Decator, County of Washington in the State of Ohio.
On this 15 day of June 1865 in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty five personally
appeared before me, the undersigned a Justice of the Peace for the County and State above
mentioned who being duly according to law, declares that he is the identical Finley W. Taylor
who was a volunteer in the company commanded by Captain J.M.Benedict in the Regiment
18th, OVI commanded by Col. Grosvner that he enlisted on the 19th day of August 1861 for
the term of Three years and was discharged at Columbus Ohio on the 9th day of Nov. 1864
by reason of expiration term of Service.
