John H. Grubaugh
Company H 120th OVI

Died 20 Ap 1963
Smith's Landing, LA

From Grubaugh researcher Mike Oswald [Lineage connects to John Henry's father]:

John Henry Grubaugh's parents were:
John Grubaugh b.4-12-1802 d.1-24-1890
Elizabeth Riblet b.8-16-1816 d.7-24-1892 m.1-21-1836 in Richland County Ohio
John and Elizabeth moved to Nebraska between 1860 and 1870. I don't have a record of John's occupation.

The children/John H's siblings and John H. himself:
1. Lucinda Grubaugh b.10-21-1836 Richland Co,OH d.5-25-1923 David City,NE
2. James W Grubaugh b.3-14-1838 Richland Co,OH  d.5-25-1923 David City,NE
The death date info on Lucinda and James is from research I've seen that was done in the past; I seriously doubt these two died on the same date. I haven't found a different date for either of them yet...

[Holmes County marriage book:
There is a marriage for a John H. Grubaugh and Majora Shaffer  in Holmes county OH on 10 Aug. 1861.]

[Pension listing for John H. Grubaugh:   His widow Margaret filed for a pension on 4 Sep 1863.  A filing was made for a minor on 26 July(?)  1868 with the guardian as William L(?) Wacker.  No state was given, so Margaret's residence in those years is still not known.]

John Henry and Marjory Shaffer did  have a son.
He was Andrew Jackson Grubaugh, b.11-22-1861; d.9-7-1938.   As far as I know, this is the only child they had.  Andrew married in Licking County, Ohio, and had a family.

John Henry, as far as I know, only lived in Richland County before he entered military service.  I have no record what his occupation was before the war.
His wife Marjory Shaffer is a bit of a mystery in my data, I have her birth as 1840, and an unsure death date of about 1866. The verbal history is that she died when son Andrew was about 5 years old - hence the "about 1866" date for her death.

Unfortunately, the Roll of Honor in the back of the Roster book does not tell where John Grubaugh is buried.  It is left blank, just saying that he died at Smith's Landing, La on 20 Ap 1863.
