LINKS Results We are in Group D Contact: holden4dna@toad.net Discussion: Dennis Holdren, b. abt 1776 NJ; d. 1844 Dearborn Co., IN; m. Mariah Andress Apr 1,1800 Kingwood, Hunterdon Co., NJ; (participants 010 and 013) and Adren (Aid) Edward Holdren, b. abt 1785 NJ; d. Nov 11, 1868 White Hall, Montour County, PA ; m. Abigail DeMott, May 16, 1813 PA; (participant 018). Although a connection was suspected between these two, there was no evidence until the DNA results. According to the DNA results, the probability of a common ancestor in the last 200 years is 89% and in the last 300 years 97%. The common ancestor would have been the father of these two men who we suspect was born abt 1751, about 250 years ago. There are two other Holdrens in the same area who are believed to be siblings of Adren Holdren: Matthias Holdren was born abt 1782, d. aft Aug 17, 1860, m. Ruth Hawk Dec 27, 1807 Easton, Northampton Co., PA. Anna Holdren was b. abt 1876 NJ; d. aft Jul 9, 1870; m. Daniel Everitt Jan 13, 1804 Hunterdon Co., NJ. There is evidence to suggest that the father of these individuals may be a Benjamin(Benajah) Holdren, b. bet 1751 and 1757; d. 1842 Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co., NJ; m. ?Margaret Stagg, m. ?Elizabeth Purcell. Benjamin(Benajah) Holdren: There are many references to Benjamin and Benajah Holdren. There may have been three individuals in roughly the same area at the same time, one, I believe, was our ancestor Benajah Holdren, who, we now know, served in PA; the other two were a Benjamin Holden and Benjamin Holdren both serving in NJ. 1. Benjamin Holden, Private 3rd Regiment, Hunterdon County Militia; enlisted from the 3rd Regiment, Hunterdon County Militia, May 25, 1773, for nine months. At the date of his enlistment in the New Jersey Continental Line he was a resident of Amwell, Hunterdon County; 16 years of age, 5'4" in height, fair complexion, and fair hair. (There is also a listing for a Benjamin Holden, Col.). 2. In each of the years 1779, 1782 and 1783, the estate of a Benja HOLDRON is listed as a taxpayer in Nockamixon Township, Bucks County, PA. 3. In the 1830 Nockamixon Twp, Bucks Co., PA census is a Beniah Holdron, bet 70-80. 4. In the 1840 Nockamixon Twp, Bucks Co., PA census is Benjamin Hauldron 80-90, Rev War pensioner age 89. 5. There is a court note that a Benjamin Holden and his son Dennis, cordwainers, were accused of assault on a George Arnwine 1800. 6. The name Benajah or Beniah is seen frequently in descendants of Dennis Holdren. 7. My conjecture is that the wife of Benjamin/Benajah was Elizabeth Pursell/Purcell. In "History of Bucks County, Pennsylvania : from the discovery of the Delaware to the present time" by WWH Davis, the children of John Pursell are listed and Elizabeth is cited as marrying Benjamin Holden.
