Hernon, Patrick, blacksmith and farmer 4

1850 U.S. Census • New York • Wayne • Arcadia •  118/124

1870 U.S. Federal Census > New York > Wayne > Arcadia >  37/138

In the 1850, 1860, and the 1870 census Patrick is listed as a Blacksmith.

The 1860 census shows his value of real estate at $700, and the 1870 census shows the value of real estate at $1500

The census data gives us a real clue as to when Patrick and Margaret came over from Ireland.  All 3 children were born in different Countries.  The oldest, Michael was born in Ireland around 1840. The middle child, John was born in Canada about 1846.  Mary, the youngest, was born in NY in 1848.  So between 1840 and 1846 they left Ireland and went to Canada, and prior to 1848 they came to NY.  In the 1900 census John Hernon stated that he had come to America in 1847.

In the 1850, 1860, and the 1870 census Patrick and his wife, Margaret always stated that they were the same age, 42, 53, and 64 respectfully.  In addition the 1880 census lists Margaret's age as 73.  In the Master Index to Interments, 1871 thru 1883, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Patrick's age in 1877 is listed as 73.

In the Master Index to Interments, 1871 thru 1883, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Patrick is listed as having died of Consumption.  He was interment #3319 and is buried in a double grave. Margaret is buried with him in the double grave.
