Descendants of John RAWDING

Nova Scotia Roots

This RAWDING Descendancy (also from Nova Scotia as ours is) is not connected to our RAWDING line - YET! We know that it will be someday and hope that day is coming soon!

In 1986, when my daughter Becky and I were on a Family History Research Trip to Nova Scotia, we stopped in Sanford, Maine to see a cousin on a different family line.  While in the motel, we looked in the telephone book and found a Ralph RAWDING!  We were so excited!  My grandfather's name was Ralph RAWDING too!  We called him and he invited us to visit him and his wife Natalie in Ogunquit ME on the Atlantic Coast. We had a lovely time visiting with Ralph and Natalie.  They even treated us to wonderful lobster sandwiches at a shoreline restaurant and a walk on the beach!

 During our visit Ralph filled me in on his RAWDING family.  I copied down all that he knew of his family and hoped to find a connection with our RAWDINGS.  He told me his daughter Susan was also interested in Family History so I sent her what I had gathered during that visit. Susan (RAWDING) LEE, descendant of John RAWDING, has continued to do research for her RAWDING ancestors and sent Denton ORDE her information when he was writing the RAWDING book.  Her RAWDINGS are found at the end of his volume as well as an additional RHODDY line will be included on this website in the near future.  He sent me those databases and we have added to it when coming across information that fits into those RAWDING lines.  

Now, for this RAWDING Descendancy:

John RAWDING, born in Ireland (we believe), on 6 Apr 1848 was married to Melissa EWING, also born in Ireland, on 8 Sep 1851. They had six children that we know of and were living in Millville, Kings County, Nova Scotia according to the 1891 Census.  According to his descendant, Thomas M. RAWDING who recently found our HOHNEKE-CANNON Website and contacted me, "John owned and ran a lumber mill with his sons". (That makes sense since they lived in Millville!)

We have yet to connect our RAWDING lines up but know someday we will find the connection. Until then we will continue to add the information we find and hope that other cousins will contact us to fill out the family.

It is very interesting to note that Ralph's RAWDING family settled and lived in Worcester, Massachusetts where some of my RAWDINGS lived as well!  That can't just be a coincidence can it?
