RAWDING (RODDY/RHODDY)

Nova Scotia Roots

This RAWDING Family Descendancy has been created to help continue the gathering of the RAWDING Family from Nova Scotia which was begun in earnest by Winnifred (RAWDING) MORGAN in the 1940's.  It was through her efforts that the RAWDING Cairn, commemorating RAWDING Master Mariners, was erected in Clementsport, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada in the 1960's.

RAWDING Cousin Denton ORDE has continued the research and has published the "RAWDING-RHODDY-RODDY FAMILY LINES" book in 2000.  His wonderful work is a "must have" for all who lay claim to RAWDING Ancestry!  The following picture is of Denton in 2005.

Sue (CANNON) HOHNEKE, whose mother Marjorie is a RAWDING,  has been continuing the RAWDING Family research with the help of many cousins and by creating this website is hoping that knowledge of the RAWDING Family Descendants will continue to grow.

The story goes that three RAWDING brothers, British Loyalists, fled to Nova Scotia about 1784 following the Revolutionary War in the newly formed United States of America. Over 30,000 Loyalists came to Nova Scotia at that time! Our history begins with the father of the three brothers whom we have given the name: J. RAWDING.

**We've located Joseph RAWDING finally! He was a Sergeant in the Prince of Wales' American Regiment and as a Loyalist was on a LAND GRANT REQUEST with others in his regiment lead by Lieut. Michael AMBROSE at Salmon River, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada 1784-(New Brunswick was part of Nova Scotia till 1784).  See our Webpage:

 Joseph RAWDING-Loyalist.

We are still in the process of gathering all the RAWDING family, verifying the early generations, and searching for more RAWDING cousins.
