Alexander CANNON-1917
Alexander George Chantry CANNON was born in St. Giles, Middlesex, England on Tottenham Court Road not far from the British Museum (now all in London) in 1862 to Edward and Alice (CHANTRY) CANNON. He came to the U.S. when he was 16 years old arriving at Portland, Oregon. Traveling across the United States probably by railway, he settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was listed as a Veterinary Surgeon in Milwaukee in the 1880's. Alexander CANNON went to Magill University's Veterinary School in Montreal, Canada in 1893-1894 where his permanent address was Milwaukee, WI in 1893 and Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts in the 1893-1894 session of Magill University. Keene, New Hampshire was his permanent address from 1894 until he graduated. Trow's General Directory of the boroughs of Manhattan and Bronx City of New York-1898 lists CANNON, Alex. G. vet. surg. 117 W. 25th, h 159 W. 184th. (h=home address). He certainly got around!
Alexander's first wife was Lillian "Lillie" Frances KEANY from Massachusetts. She died in 1910 not long after the 1910 Census Report was taken of them living at a Tenement at 129 W. 61st St. His second wife was Blanch BECKWITH who is my Paternal Grandmother. Their one and only son, Nathan Beckwith CANNON , was born in New York City and married there as well to Marjorie Evelyn RAWDING. My parents lived in New York City until 1955 when they moved our family to Hurleyville, Sullivan County, New York where I grew up.
This CANNON Descendancy is sparser than any of our other family lines. There were no male descendants for Nathan CANNON so the family name ends with my generation. My two sisters and I have all married and now have different surnames but the CANNON Family Line has been getting fuller as family research progresses back in time to England.
Alexander George Chantry CANNON's maternal grandfather was George CHANTRY who was born in Grantham area, Lincolnshire so there is the possibility that my husband Bob and I are cousins! as his BURTONS come from Grantham area, Lincolnshire, also!
