He married 1769 in Leyland to Ann Beardsworth with children Thos. b 1772 & Alex 1787, at Whittle. ? 2 Bp. 1786 at Euxton to James HODGKINSON & Eliz Harrison married 1769.

MANCHESTER
Ann HODKINSON and William (COUSILL) COWSILL a bricklayer who died on 22-8-1827 married on 7/2/1796 at Manchester Cathedral. The couple had 10 children. Their son, John b.1804 married a Mary Ann CHEETHAM Two of their children were Peter Hodkinson Cowsill b. & d. 1841 Mary Ann Hodgkinson Cowsill d. 1843 in infancy, there being no birth entry in St Cath's records.

Elizabeth HODGKINSON (father William HODGKINSON, labourer) married Thomas KAY July 21, 1841, at The Collis (?) Parish Church in the Parish of Manchester, County of Lancaster. Elizabeth's residence was listed as as Stretford. A witness to the marriage was Charlotte Hancock. The 1851 census indicated that Elizabeth was 36 and born in Chester. Could Charlotte HANCOCK be Elizabeth HODGKINSON's sister?

Am trying to trace back from a 3 x gt grandmother, Fanny HODGKINSON, who married John WOODHOUSE ( butcher and cattle dealer, b Ribbleton1798) at Saint John, Preston, Lancashire, 8 Feb 1825. Witnesses at the wedding were Simon and Susannah YATES; have now found Susanna HODGKINSON marrying Simon YATES at the same church in 1817 (with children Mary, Simon and Peter). IGI has Peter HODGKINSON marrying Fanny YOUNGHUSBAND in the same church 16 Apr 1798, with children Susan (b 1799), Fanny (b 1800), Mary (b 1802, presumably d young), Peter (1802-1804), another Mary (b 1805) and Sarah (1807-1809). Am fairly confident this is Fanny's family. John and Fanny WOODHOUSE's children were Mary, John and Catherine (his mother's name). Catherine is living with her parents, unmarried, aged 30 in the 1861 Census. John the younger was my gt gt grandfather "an evangelical clergyman of saintly disposition", according to my grandmother, and by 1861 he was a Curate in Goosnargh, Lancs.

George HODKINSON born approximately 1827 Salford Lancashire residing Pendleton in Salford at 1881 census, occupation brass founder. Father to Alice age 21 cotton weaver; Annie age 20 cotton winder; Ellen 19 cotton doubler; and John Henry 17 butcher. Also grandfather to George aged 10 months, presumably the illegitimate son of Alice Annie or Ellen. George senior was married to Ann DALEY, but she appears to have died before 1881. On marriage of Ellen in 1885 George senior spells his surname HODGKINSON.

Thomas HODGKINSON, b.c. 1854 (metalman), of Boys Well Lane, son of Thomas Hodgkinson, (metalman), married Alice Talbot, b.c. 1854, (weaver) of Scholes, daughter of Joseph Talbot ( blacksmith) at St George's Wigan on 19 Oct 1874. They lived at 14 Cale Lane, Aspull in 1881 & at 27 Chancery Lane, Wigan in 1891. On the census, entries their name was spelled, Hodkinson. Place of birth for Thomas was Aspull & for Alice, St. Helens. Their children & approx. years of birth were: Elizabeth 1875, Eliza 1877, Charles 1879, Joseph 1882, Edith 1883, Mary 1885, Alice 1890 & Maggie 1891.

PRESTON
John Hodgkinson, born about 1620, married Anne ? in 1635 at Preston, Lancashire. Two of their children were John Hodgkinson, Jr, b 15 Feb 1650/1651 and Eleanor Hodgkinson, b abt 1638. Descent through John Hodgkinson, Jr, a butcher, who married Mary Birchall on 13 Aug 1678 at St John's Parish and their son, Thomas Hodgkinson, Sr, b 1 Feb 1679. He emigrated to the United States in 1699 and served as an indentured servant in Maryland. The name gradually changed to Hoskinson and then to Hoskins. The line went from Prince George's County Maryland, to Washington Co, Tennessee and into Bell Co, Kentucky.

STOCKPORT
John Edward Hughes, son of Peter Hughes and Harriet McDonald, married Mary Helen Hodkinson on February 10, 1917 in Stockport. Mary, the daugher of Thomas Hodkinson, was living on Pollitt’s Court, Duke Street. (John was living at 10 Tatton Street in Stockport). Witnesses were Alice Hughes and Thomas Daly, Bridgefield Street, Stockport. (There is a John Hughes, age 5, in the 1901 census index. This is probably John and Mary’s.)
