John Wilkes came from England in a vessel that started out in search of Capt. Kidd. He was 17 years of age and had considerable property which he entrusted to the Capt. who ran away with it and it is supposed he turned Pirate;
A Wilkes, Barnum and Bushnell left England in search of the pirate Capt. Kidd. After roaming the seas for thirteen months, they abandoned the chase and later all settled in or near Danbury, Conn. The Wilkes and Barnum lines
continued but the Bushnell line ended with the first settler;

Josiah served in the Revolutionary War. SAR shows that Josiah was the father of James. A private in Fourth Conn. Militia.

Josiah Wetmore's name is found in a list of nine survivors of Captain Beardslee's Company, in Col. Whiting's Regiment (4th Militia), commanded by Lieut. Col. Jonathan Dimon, at Peekskill, October 1777.
Time of marching, Oct. 5,1777, discharged Oct. 13,1777. (Pay abstract for his [Capt. Beardslee's] Company in Col. Samuel Whiting's regiment of Militia, in the State of Connecticut for a short campaign at the Fishkill in Oct. 1777. Commanded by Lt. Col. Jonathan Dimon?, allowed twenty miles per day for man to return home after being discharged. Published Connecticut Archives, pp. 519,515.

Served in Revolutionary War, Private in Captain David Waterbury's Company, in Fifth Regiment Conn. Continentals. Ephraim Peck served as a private, May 13 to Oct. 8th, 1775, in the company of Col. David Waterbury's regiment, "Fifth Regiment Continental". This regiment, raised on first call for troops by act of legislature, April - May 1775, was recruited mainly in Fairfield County. It marched by request of New York Provincial authorities and the Continental Congress to New York in the latter part of June and encamped at Harlem. In September, under orders from Congress it marched to Northern Department, Gen. Schuyler's and took part in operations along Lakes George and Champlain. Term of service expired Dec. 1775, but on account of sickness many men returned home in October and November 1775. (pp. 39 & 64 Conn. Mil. Record.).
