In the name of God Amen. I Elijah Hanks of Granville County & State of north Carolina being of perfect mind & memory do make and ordain this my last Will & testament, hereby revoking all former Wills.
Item. I give my soul into the hands of my Creator. My body I recommend to the Earth at the Discretion of my Executors. My Worldly Estate I give and bequeath in the follow manner. Viz:
Item. I Leave all my Land mare and Cattle and my working tools to be sold at the highest Bidder and my Debts.
Item. Give and bequeath unto my son Samule & David Hanks all my Close to be Equal divided between them.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son Thomas Hanks ten shillings Virginia money to him and his heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son John Hanks ten shillings Virginia money to him and his heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son William Hanks ten shillings Virginia money to him an his heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my Daugtour Betsey Hanks ten shillings Virginia money to her and her heirs for ever.
Item. I Leave all my Bounds and acm**t(?) to be settled and Colected.
Item. Give and bequeath unto Brother Argil Hanks Children one hundred pounds Virginia to be equal Divided between them to them and heirs for ever.
Item. Give and bequeath unto my son Samule(?) and David Hanks all the residue of my Estate to be Equal Divide between them to them there heirs and assigns for ever.
I appoint my friend Jamce Lyne Executors of this my last Will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 8 Day of November 1797.

Court by the Oath of Richard Hargrave a Subscribing witness thereto and Ordered
to be Recorded, which is Truly done.

In the name of God Amen. I John Hanks of the County of Chatham and State
of North Carolina. Being of sound and Perfect Mind and Memory (Blessed
be God), do This 16th day of June in The Year of Our Lord one Thousand
Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight make and publish This my last Will and Testament
in Manner and form following. That is to Say. First, I commit my Soul to
God who gave it and my body to its Mother Earth. Item 2d. I give and bequeath
to my beloved Wife Jane The House and lot whereon I now live known and
designated in the Plot of The town of Pittsborough as (Number 104). Also
one Sorrel Horse and one Brown Cow (white face). To have and to hold the
Same during her Natural life. Item 3d. I give and bequeath , at the death
of my wife Jane, to my Son Wesley all the above Named House & lot,
Horse and Cow. To have and to hold the Same, his heirs or assigns forever.
Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my Jane all my Beds together with my furniture
of every description and one Clock. To have and to hold the Same during
her life. And at her decease I give and bequeath the above named Bed, and
furniture and Clock to my Daughter Mary, her heirs or assigns forever.
Item 5th. I give and bequeath to the rest of my Sons and Daughters or their
representatives The Sum of Ten Shillings. (Namely, Martin, John, Nancy,
and the representative of My Daughter Jane. And I hereby Make and ordain
My Son Wesley Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In Whereof I
the said John Hanks have to this my last Will and Testament Set my hand
and Seal The day and date above written.

Item. I give and bequeath the lands over the Ridge Rode unto Elijah hancks during his life time. I also give the land on N.B. and at his Death the land shall be sold and the money equally divided among all the Children living. All the old deeded land and the land bequeathed by the Ridge Rode to William hancks and his lawful heirs and begotten of body. Also I give a negro winch Called Nan and also I give all the han tools and the Crop that is now growing on the plantation and also a mare and Colt Called Lib(?) and also two a piece(?) to William hancks and Susannah Hancks and also a case of drawers two Cows and Calves and young horse called mountain Saddle and bridle and also a negro Girl Called Rachel. and a negro boy Called Daniel.
Item. I also give to my son Argill a negro boy named Simon.
Item. I also give unto my daughter Hannah More (Moore) a negro boy called Samuel.
Item. I also give to my son William and Susannah hancks all the pewter that I possess.
Item. and also I lend the land that my daughter Milly Barnes? now lives on during her lifetime and after her decease I give it to my Gran Son William Barnes?.
Item. and the Remainder of my estate to be sold and the money ariseing to be Equally divided amongst all my Children then alive.
This is my late will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 10th of July 1787.

The last will & Testament of William Hanks Dec'd. was
duly proved by the oath of Howil Morse & James Braine(?) which was ordered
to be Recorded & registered. Then William Hanks qualified as Executor to the
said Will.

In the Name of God Amen. This the Eighth Day of November in the year of our Lord 1794. I William Hancks of Granville County and State of North Carolina Being Very Sick and Week in Body But of Perfect Mind and Memory thanks be to God for the Same and Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament. That is to say Principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian Like and Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executors Nothin Doubting But at the general Resurrection I Shall Receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as Touching Such Worldly Estate Where with it hath Pleased God to Bless me in this Life I give and Devise and Dispose of the Same in manner and form Following. That is to say.
Item. I give and Bequeath to my Beloving Wife Sally Hancks one third of my Estate after my Just Debts is paid to she and her Heirs for Ever. Also I Lend her the Residue of my Rail and Personal Estate During of Her Widow hood or Untill my Loving Son Wm. Henry Hancks Comes of Age.
Item. I give and Bequeath to my Loving Son Wm. Henry Hancks all my Estate Real and Personal that is Not heretofore Been Mentioned to him and his Heirs for Ever and if in Case that my Loving Son Should Die Without and Heirs I give it to my Loving Wife Sally Hancks to she and Her Heirs for Ever. And I do hereby Utterly Disallow, Revoke and Disannull all and Every others former Testaments Wills and Legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any ways Before this time Named Willed and Bequeathed. Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness Whereof I have here unto Set my hand and Seal this the Day and year Above Written.
I do Hereby appoint my Loving Wife Sally Hancks and
Henry Fitts(?) Senor and Maryman Barnes my Executors to this my Last Will and
Testament

Hancks was duly proven in open court by the Oath of Stephen Ellis & Susannah
Hancks the Subscribing witnesses thereto & Ordered to be Recorded. And at
the same time came Sally Hancks & Henry Fitts and qualified as Executrix
& Executor to the same.
