Hilas R. Johnson
He served in the 33rd
Regiment, Ohio Infantry, Company F. He entered service in 1861 when the
33rd was organized in Portsmouth, OH (August-Sept) and mustered out in
Louisville, KY July 12, 1865. I believe they were volunteers and that
they were very active in the Civil War in KY, TN, GA (including March to the
Sea, siege of Atlanta and Siege of Savannah),Campaign of the Carolinas, NC, VA,
Washington DC and then back to KY. I do not know how much
action my Great-Grandfather saw in this campaign. He began as a
Private and ended as a Sergeant. I got this information from
a Civil War site on the internet --- There was never a word mentioned of his
service in the Civil War in our family. Not one story, no pictures,
pieces of clothing, nothing. I have no doubt that it is him. This
is a very small town and I don't think anyone else would have that
name. Everything fits.
