R1b1a2a1a1b4* Group White Mulberry

Haplogroup Definition

According to Myres et al. (2010, European Journal of Human Genetics 19:95-101) haplogroup R1b1a2 (defined by the mutation M269 that is estimated to have happened about 10,000 years ago) is the most common Y-chromosome haplogroup throughout Western Europe. It seems to be associated with the spread of farming into Europe from the Near East through Anatolia.

The subclade to which White Mulberry members belong, R1b1a2a1a1b4 (defined by the L21 or M529 marker) is most common in England and Ireland where it comprises 25-50% of the male population. Recent deep clade tests identified several subclades “downstream” from R1b1a2a1a1b4, but White Mulberry members tested to date do not have markers associated with any of these subclades; therefore our haplogroup designation ends with an asterisk: R1b1a2a1a1b4*.
