Letter forwarded to me by Denise Gregory.  It was sent to her by Arthur E. Thomas, working on the Webb line in the 50', 60's, and 70's.  He had some good information on the Webb family and was trying to find Hiram's parents.  We hope this is of use to other researchers.

Narcissa Jane Webb was the eleventh child of Hiram Webb and the daughter of Hiram and Mary Rebecca Blalock Webb. There is a reason for not saying she is Mary Rebecca's eleventh child. There is much information about the life of Hiram and Rebecca Webb that is proving elusive.

Family tradition believes that Hiram Webb born in North Carolina and in all probability, Mary Rebecca Blalock was too. The given name Hiram is rare in the early webb families and it is easier to identify our Hiram from census records because of it. The first census in which i find Hiram mentioned as a family head is for 1820 lincoln co. Tn. The age given in this census is between 16 and 26 years. There were two children under 10 years of age in this census. From this information Hiram must have been about 25 years old. This would place his birth about 1795. A question the early census doesn't reveal is who his wife was at the time.

Rutherford County , North Carolina marriage records reveal the marriage of a Hiram Webb to Sarah Holifield( we cannot be certain this is our relative but it could be) and places his birth about 1793 to 1795. IF this is our forefather, Hiram undoubtedly was married twice, first to Sarah Holifield and later to Mary Rebecca Blalock. Present day descendents know of only one wife, Mary Rebecca Blalock. If Hiram was married twice, was Sarah Holifield the mother of his first children and how many? If Hiram was born in North Carolina he moved to Tennessee prior to the 1820 census. The 1820 census shows that he resided in Lincoln CO.  IF he married twice , did Sarah die and did he then marry Mary Rebecca Blalock and did this occur before or after moving to Lincoln co. Tennessee? At the present time the question of two marriages and when and where both took place is conjecture.

The 1820 census for Lincoln Co. tn. shows a David Blalock age 45 there. THis was Mary Rebecca's father as proven by his Revolutionary War Record. His war record shows that in his travels he did reside for a  while in Lincoln CO. Tn. That his birth date was March 1752 which would make his age in 1820 about 68 , not 45, as in the 1820 census. An affidavid by Margaret Robinson accompanying his war record, shows that she was one of the two surviviing daughtersof David Blalock, the other being Mary Webb whom she hadn't heard from in 15 years. This war record shows that David Blalock although born in Brunswick Co. Va.lived in Chatam Co. Nc. during his service in the Revolutionary War. It also shows that he later lived in Montgomery Co. North Carolina before going to Tennessee.

All of the above is interesting information but it does not resolve the question about Hiram WEbb's marriage or Marriages. IF he was married twice it does not answer the question of when and where he married Mary Rebecca Blalock and how many of his children were by his first wife.

Hiram and  Mary Rebecca Webb moved from Lincoln County Tennessee to Marion Co. Alabama some time in the 1820's just when is not known. 1830 census for Marion County , Alabama lists him and his family. He was accidently killed about 1839.
