Gillie Love Evans was born on January 29, 1877 in Lee County, Mississippi.
She was the youngest child of Dave and Rosa Tooten Evans, though a younger
brother died at birth when she was a small child. She was a twin to
Will Tom Evans, though not identical twins. She grew up in the Union
Community of Lee County. A few weeks after her birth her grandfather
Tooten passed away. Her grandmother Tooten lived with them until she
was nine years old, then she passed away.
Although it is not known how she met William Asa Marsh, but in late 1900
or 1901 she had married him. He was born on April 10, 1881, in Vero
Beach, Indian River County, Florida. Her first cousin Cynthia L. Evans
also married a Mr. Marsh and they later moved to Vero Beach.
In 1902, their first child was born, Zell Marsh. They also had a
son, Roger Marsh, on July 27, 1907. But at the age of three, on September
29, 1910, he passed away. Though it was rare, there was a brief obituary
in the Tupelo paper:
The Tupelo Journal
October 6, 1910
Obituary: Rogers Marsh, only son of Mr. & Mrs. Will Marsh, died suddenly on September 29, 1910 in his home near Plantersville.
William was a farmer and Gillie stayed at home. She was a very jolly
person and everyone loved Cousin Gillie. She talked a lot and laughed
even more and entertained the children wherever she went. The Tupelo
newspaper recorded one instance of Will going to town to buy goods:
The Tupelo Journal
August 26, 1910
Messrs. Dave Evans and Will Marsh, two of Plantersville's best citizens, spent the day in town on business (Monday).
In 1920, the census recorded them like this:

Marsh, Zell 17 Dau. MS MS MS
It was only a few years later, on August 3, 1923, that Will passed away,
at the young age of 42. He was buried in the Union Methodist Cemetery.
After Will had died, Gillie took in a boy named Bill who was orphaned.
He was already a young boy when Gillie took him in, and Gillie was
never able to get him to behave. He got a little older and wouldn't
do anything he was told at all. Finally, Gillie allowed him to leave.
He found some of his people in Arkansas and went to live with them.
Nobody ever heard from him again.
Gillie lived with Zell and Potius most of the rest of her life after Will
died. She passed away at the age of 73, on December 23, 1950.
(md. Potius Posey)
Zell was born on December 17, 1902. She married Potius and lived her life in the Richmond Community in Lee County. She was a wonderful cook and a housewife. Potius farmed and was a World War I Veteran. He was the last World War I Veteran to pass away in Lee County. Zell and Potius had no children that lived. She passed away in 1982 at the age of 79. Potius died in 1989 at the age of 94.
