George C. Blaylock

George was born in 1874, the second or third child of Bob and Polly Blaylock.  George was a farmer and lived in Sulligent, right off Gattman Road at the railroad tracks.

We know that he married Nancy A. Walden about 1898, and a couple of years later they had their first child, Alice Mae Blaylock in 1900.  Their son Ira Esker was born in 1904, and another boy named Bob in 1907.  The family was recorded in 1920 in Pine Springs:

1920 Lamar County, Alabama Census
Pine Springs; Dwelling 24/24
Blaylock, George C. 46 AL AL AL
Blaylock, Nancy A. 47 AL SC SC
Blaylock, Ari E.        16 AR AL AL
Blaylock, James R.   13 AR AL AL

His wife Nancy died sometime about 1929 and was buried in the Macedonia Cemetery in Lamar County, though she doesn't have a tombstone.  George was recorded the next year living with his daughter Alice and his son in law, Winfield Turman.

1930 Lamar County, Alabama Census
Pine Springs, District 10, Page 12, Dw #118/111
Blaylock, George B. 56 Widowed AL AL AL Laborer

It was thought that George lived out in Oklahoma for a while too, but he died back in Lamar County and was buried with Nancy in Macedonia Cemetery, also without a tombstone.  He passed away about 1939.  It was said that he died while playing around and scuffling with Thomas "Tomboy" McClendon.  He had a heart attack and died.

Children of George C. Blaylock

Alice Mae Blaylock (md. Winfield Turman)
Alice Mae was born in 1900 and married Winfield in 1916.  They had seven children together and lived in Sulligent.  She was a homemaker, while Winfield farmed and was a salesman.  She passed away on April 20, 1965, and was buried in Pope Cemetery next to Turman, who had passed away at the age of 44, on February 7, 1945.

Ira Esker Blaylock (md. Estus Pennington)
Ira was born on March 7, 1904.  He married Estus, who was born on September 28, 1903, and together they had four children.  I don't know much about him, but when he died, he was buried in the Macedonia Cemetery in Lamar County.  Estus passed away in December of 1980 and was buried there also.

James Robert "Bob" Blaylock (Mary Agnes Bowen)
Bob was born in 1907, possibly while the family was living away (in Arkansas?).  He was a farmer and worked for the Works Progress Administration too.  He married Mary Agnes about 1935 and they had four children together.  He passed away about 1968 in Guin, but he had lived in Fayette County since about 1946.  He is buried in the Mt. Willing Cemetery in the edge of Fayette County.
