Anna Maria (Gird) WALKER was a writer and author of many short stories & poems published in "Godey's Ladies Book" in Rochester, New York, later "The Ladies Home Journal". It was a very popular publication for the Ladies & Gentlemen of the 19th Century. She wrote in the nom de plume of " Isabella Jocelyn ".

ANNA MARIA (GIRD) WALKER lived a very interesting life. Read about her family and a little about her life and read the Poem she wrote as her wedding gift to her new sister-in-law, Martha Stites Lewis -1849.

Notes: Martha's father, William LEWIS, owned a considerable amount of land in Clinton County, Illinois and was one of the earliest settlers there - since about 1812. He later subdivided part of his farm into lots for a town. (See story below)

They lived for many years in Bates County, Missouri, then later removing to Los Angeles County, California, where Edward bought land and they took up ranching.
Children: they had 6 children, but only three (3) lived to adulthood:

7. Marriage book - The annotations in this transcription come from the
"Hunting For Bears" Marriage Book of East Feliciana Parish, when the marriage
seemed to belong or pertain to the listed entry. Some of the marriages have
"WFP" after them. This means that the marriage record was taken from the
"Hunting For Bears" Marriage Book of West Feliciana Parish, and in most cases
date before the splitting of the parishes into East and West, in 1824.
