James Younger Higginbotham (1920-2006) MS/UT/ID
TWIN FALLS - Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather,
James Younger Higginbotham, 86, returned to his Heavenly Father Sunday, December
10, 2006.
He was born February 17, 1920, to Orlando Vier and Margie Lee Allen Higginbotham
in Meadville, Mississippi.
He married Ora Bernice Orgill August 15, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, while he
was serving in the Army during World War II. He served in the Aleutian Islands
for the first two years of their marriage. The family was sealed together for
eternity on June 23, 1955.
James and Ora spent almost 40 years of their life together in Kearns, Utah. Jim
spent many years working for the Utah Dept. of Highways before he retired in
1984. He loved gardening and working with his hands building many beautiful
things for his family.
Jim was a devout member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings including
high priest group leader, Scoutmaster and in his later years he was a temple
worker in the Jordan River, Utah temple.
His beloved Ora passed away September 20, 1992, after having celebrated 50 years
together. In his loneliness, he met and married his beloved India Clarissa
Westfall July 21, 1993. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho, soon after their
marriage. He spent many happy hours with India, and she will dearly miss him.
He dearly loved his family, especially his precious grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, spending many happy hours with them. James and Ora raised
five children, three of their own and two of his daughter Marilyn's children
after she passed away in 1976.
Our beloved father was always happy and had a smile for everyone, right up to
the end of his life. He truly loved life and everyone loved to be around him. He
was truly the most kind, compassionate and accepting man that we have ever
known. He loved his family and friends unconditionally, no matter what paths
they chose in life. His family always came first. Thus, he will be sorely missed
until we can join him and be together forever.
He is survived by his loving children, James Allen Higginbotham (Linda) of
Kearns, Utah, Annette Warburton (David), of Pocatello, Idaho; his granddaughter,
Mary Melinda Wright of Pocatello, Idaho; his grandson, James Richard Garbis of
Paris, Illinois, both of whom he helped raise; 10 grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren; and a soon-to-arrive great-great-grandson; two brothers,
Leroy Higginbotham and John Thomas Smith, both of Monroe, Louisiana; one sister,
Christine Craine of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his
parents, his beloved wife, Ora, his precious daughter, Marilyn Garbis, sisters,
Sally Fletcher and Genevieve Wheeler, brothers, Nathan Smith and August
Higginbotham.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2006, at 11 a.m., under the
direction of Memorial Estates Mortuary, with Bishop Paul Slack conducting, at
the LDS Church at 4660 W. 5015 S., Kearns, Utah. Friends may call at Memorial
Estates Mortuary, 5850 S. Ninth E., Friday evening, Dec. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.,
and at the church one hour prior to services Saturday. Interment will be in the
Heber City Cemetery, Heber City, Utah, with full military rites.
