Madeline Murray Delaney Higginbotham (1913-2008) CT
Plainfield - Madeline Delaney Higginbotham, 94, of 38 Salmen Drive,
Moosup, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Westerly, a daughter of the late Henry and Irene
(Vredenburg) Murray and had been raised in Pawcatuck, Danielson. and Moosup.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Westerly for many years.
Mrs. Higginbotham was devoted to her family. She was married to Lawrence Joseph
Delaney who died March 31, 1971, and later to Col. H. Kenneth Higginbotham who
died in September of 1999.
She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Richard Blanchette of Moosup; her
grandchildren, Maureen and Patrick Brown and William L. Jr. and Melissa Delaney;
her great-grandchildren, Evan and Conner Delany; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn
Delaney of Pomfret; her extended family, Pamela Ocasek, Karen Hussey, Eric
Blanchette, and Audrey Clark.
She was predeceased by her son, William L. Delaney Sr.
The funeral and burial are private. There are no calling hours.

Frances Higginbotham Lake (1923-2009) CT
Frances Higginbotham Lake, of Waterford, entered into eternal
rest at her home surrounded by her loving family on July 21, 2009. She was born
on July 17, 1923, in New London to John and Mary Egan Higginbotham. She is
survived by her husband of 67 years, Aubrey L. Lake. She was raised in New
London and graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School at the top her class and
went on to graduate from WMI in 1940. She retired from Lawrence & Memorial
Hospital after 27 years of service in the admitting office as a supervisor. In
addition to her husband she is survived by her four children, Carol Carnaroli
and Ann Lewis of Waterford, Mary Ellen and Philip Greene of Inverness, Fla. and
John and Nena Lake of Niantic. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert
and Debi Carnaroli, Lisa Carnaroli Hedge and Michael Hedge, Jennifer and Darren
Patton, Melissa Lewis-Gardner, Beth Lewis Kotfer and Kevin Kotfer, Timothy and
Jennifer Lake, Kyle and Erica Lake, Tara and Gregory Faircloth, Robert and
Rhonda Greene and step-grandson, Michael and Amelia Fedikovich. She also leaves
her many great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Chris Madre, Nicholas Hedge, Hannah
Hedge, Joseph Carnaroli, Kayla and Alyssa Kotfer, Ryan and Mason Gardner, Jordan
Lake, Joshua Faircloth and Kalli and Alexis Lake. Adding to her family her two
great-great-grandchildren are Michael Madre and Dominick Hedge. She also has
seven step-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild. She was
predeceased by her parents and three sisters, Ruth O'Neill, Ethel Newcomb and
Kathryn Gros. She was a member of the Modernettes Bowling League, a former Girl
Scout leader and former member of the DAV Auxiliary. She was quite the baker,
and was well known for her wonderful desserts and recipes. She also enjoyed
traveling during her retirement but her true passion in life was her family and
she will always be remembered as a special mother and grandmother. Memorial
donations may be made to her favorite charity, the Dakota Indian Foundation, PO
Box 340, Chamberlain, SD 57325. The funeral will assemble at 9:15 a.m. on
Saturday, July 25, at the Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave.,
New London and proceed to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St.,
New London for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St.
Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Ave., New London. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on
