Abraham Hickman was born on 15 September 1794 at Greene Co, PA.. He was the son of Robert Hickman and Mary Magdalena Livengood. He married Mary Catherine Nelson, daughter of Mathias Nelson and Catherine Renner, on 26 November 1816; by Rev. Shannon in Frederick Co, VA.
