The Panhandle comprises the northern-most
counties of Texas, and is bordered by Oklahoma on the north and east.
New Mexico borders the Panhandle on the west. Greer County, Texas (not
shown in this map) existed between Feb. 8, 1860 and Mar 16, 1896.
It lay east of, and adjacent to Wheeler, Collingsworth, and
Childress Counties; and north of Hardeman and Wilbarger Counties.
In 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the county was actually part
of the U.S. Indian Territory (later Oklahoma), and not Texas. For more
