McMains in the Texas Panhandle

The Panhandle comprises the northern-most counties of Texas, and is bordered by Oklahoma on the north and east. New Mexico borders the Panhandle on the west. Greer County, Texas (not shown in this map) existed between Feb. 8, 1860 and Mar 16, 1896.  It lay east of, and adjacent to Wheeler, Collingsworth, and Childress Counties; and north of  Hardeman and Wilbarger Counties. In 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the county was actually part of the U.S. Indian Territory (later Oklahoma), and not Texas.
