Last Rites Wednesday For Mrs. Hattie McMains Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Christian church in Barnes City for Mrs. Hattie McMains, 86, who passed away Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Boughton, near New Sharon. Obituary Hattie Aletta Lockard, daughter of James and Mary J. Lockard, was born on August 20, 1866 and quietly passed away January 18, 1953, at the age of 86 years, four months and twenty-eight days. On January 28, 1886 she was united in marriage to Isaiah McMains. To this union nine children were born all of whom are living. She is survived by nine children all of whom live in the area. They are: Mrs. Boughton of New Sharon; Robbie McMains of What Cheer; Carl McMains of Lynnville; Mrs. Clyde Spain of North English; Orin McMains and Floyd McMains of New Sharon; Mrs. Ada Dye of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Ira Kinzebach of Barnes City; Mrs.Clifford Davis of Montezuma. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Belle Wymore of Barnes City; Mrs. Laura Tryon of Stratton, Colorado; Mrs. Sadie Gorsuch of Pawnee City, Nebraska; one brother, S. A. Lockard of Oskaloosa; 35 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, January 10, 1922, her parents, three brothers, and five sisters. She was born in Mahaska County and her entire life was spent in Barnes City and vicinity. She was a kind and loving mother, always lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends in need as long as her health permitted. Since July, 1951, she has made her home among her children, not being able to care for herself. Since the latter part of August she has been in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Boughton. Rev. Robert Woodward conducted the services and burial was in the Mormon Point cemetery.

Montezuma - Funeral services for Mrs. Amy McMains 78, who died
Wednesday night, January 14, 1970, at Mahaska Hospital, Oskaloosa,
after a lingering illness, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the
Union Mills Christian Church with the Rev. Ray Biggers officiating. The Steffy Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. McMains is survived by her husband, Orin, and four daughters, Mrs. Irene Shaw and Mrs. Edith Puffinbarger of Ottumwa; and Mrs. Helen Hargis and Miss Opal McMains of New Sharon. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. |
LYNNVILLE- Carl Ray McMains, 82, of Lynnville,
died Tuesday evening at Skiff Memorial Hospital, Newton. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; four sons, Warner of Napa, Calif., Marvin Dale of Sun Valley, Calif., Ray of Newton, and Paul of Jerseyville, Ill.; and five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Velma) Scull of Grinnell; Mrs. George (Ila) DiAngelons of Newhall, Calif.; Mrs. Douglas (Maxine) Stallcop of San Pablo, Calif., Mrs. Clair (Dorotha) Gifford of Pella and Mrs. James (Doris) Lawrence of Metairie, La. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oren and Floyd McMains, both of New Sharon; and five sisters, Mrs. Angie Boughton of New Sharon, Mrs. Clyde Spain of South English, Mrs. Clifford Davis of What Cheer, Mrs. Ira Kinzebach of Barnes City and Mrs. Merrill Lewis of Oskaloosa. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Lynnville Friends Church, conducted by the Rev. Delano Cunningham. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery at Lynnville with the Harden Funeral Home, New Sharon, in charge of arrangements. |
