Summary:
Abraham McMains was born (1782) in Pennsylvania, although we don't know exactly where. We do know that he returned to his father's home state of Kentucky. Different sources give different dates for Margaret E. Mitchell's death (first wife), but it is likely she died in Kentucky in either 1824 or 1826.  Abraham married his second wife in 1824 or 1825.  He moved his family out of Kentucky, likely stopping in Indiana for time. At least one of his children settled in Indiana. By about 1830, we know Abraham had settled in Mahaska County, Iowa.

61.  Paula Miller, Genealogy Report from Paula Miller, "Electronic," The following story concerning Frederick Wymore's volunteering for  service in the U. S. Army was told to the author by a descendant of Frederick:it seems that Frederick Wymore had gone to a small town near the Kansas line or in Kansas to transact some business matters.  While attending to these business matters, his horse was stolen.  He could not locate his horse, or find a trace of it.  He concluded that it had been stolen by a Southern sympathizer.  It seems that there was a recruiting officer in the town, and being of a somewhat impulsive nature Frederick Wymore signed up for service with the army.  He was to be notified later as to the time of induction into active service.  On his way home and after arriving home he had some second thoughts about the situation his impulsiveness had gotten him into.  He had a wife and several of his children were small, and he didn't know how they would fare while he served in the army. Evidently the family talked the situation over, and his son Linville H. Wymore, although only 14 or 15 years old (but large for his age) told his father that he would serve in his place and answer to his father's name at roll call.  Thus we find that Linville H. Wymore became a man among men while yet in his early teens..
