HESTON FAMILY ASSOCIATION

for the descendants of

Zebulon HESTON and Dorothy HUTCHINSON

____________________

OUR FOUNDATION ON THIS HOMEPAGE

The HESTON FAMILY ASSOCIATION will be for the descendants of Zebulon HESTON and Dorothy HUTCHINSON. Zebulon Heston arrived in Eastham, Barnstable Co, MA from England in 1684. By using this website for Family Newsletters and Family Reunions, we will rekindle the bonds of our HESTON Family which began when our ancestors Zebulon and Dorothy got married on 3 DEC 1698 in Hutchinson Manor, Burlington County, New Jersey.

Eighth Annual National HESTON Family Reunion at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana - AUG 13, 2016 Saturday

Letter to my HESTON Family descendants

To my HESTON Family cousins,

Here is the news about the HESTON Family Reunion on August 13, 2016 Saturday at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Ind.

HESTON Family Reunion Part - 1

On Thursday, May 12, 2016 4:42 PM, Earl Kumfer wrote:

Hi Martin,

The reunion plan is definite as to the following:

(1) We are meeting in Fort Wayne, IN on Friday noon, August 12 through Saturday evening, August 13, 2016.

(2) The organized meetings will occur in a reserved room in the Allen Country Public Library. We will have access to computer projection, overhead projector, and the internet for our sessions and small group exchanges. The ACPL is not open on Sundays during the summer month.

(3) The Genealogy Department of this library has the second largest collection of materials in the country, after the great resource at Salt Lake City. We will have special guest access to the resources in the department. The research staff are well respected and always helpful. If any Heston descendants attending wish to come earlier in the week for one or more days of family tree research, that can be arranged. While attendees probably prefer to make their own travel and housing arrangements, we will later send a short list of close-by Bed & Breakfasts and hotels. Many restaurants, coffee bars and fast food outlets are in easy walking distances as well.

We expect to have reserve special priced tickets available for a professional baseball game in our new downtown ball park one evening. The “Tin Caps” have home games on these August Thursday-Saturday nights, with fireworks.

Finally, the data on Heston descendants continues to grow. I had thought to print and distribute it at the reunion. But that seems to have grown too large and unwieldy at the moment. It was over 450 pages; by reformatting into 2 columns, it did shrink but to 377 pages. The index of names alone is 60 pages. There are 2665 persons, including known descendants, spouses, and parents of spouses. That’s an additional 210 since I last reported six months ago.

Feel free to post my email address.

I am very interested in knowing if anyone has any stories, pictures, genealogy software questions, etc. to share. We can build a schedule time for individual or group presentations.

HESTON Family Reunion - Part 2

On Saturday, May 14, 2016 11:45 AM, Earl Kumfer wrote:

Hi Martin,

As I mentioned I would in Thursday’s email, I did meet with the staff and supervisor at the Allen County Public Library, Genealogy Department yesterday.

The library will be open on Sundays, but not in the mornings.

This would allow more time for our members to use the research facilities and consult staff.

The Genealogy Department has recently rearranged storage and research space. So, we have an even better resource to use. We can conduct our meetings right in the department. The “Discovery Center” is a large (easily will handle 50 people for presentations) room with tables and presentation capability (projection, internet, screen, etc.) as well as great presentation and space for our more formal meetings.

The only negative: We cannot have food in that room!

In our negotiation, we also got a commitment for

(1) an orientation to genealogy research — a practical interaction talk — for beginners as well as for those of us who have been at it for a good spell.

(2) a guided tour of the facility for the entire group, introducing members to the various computer and hard copy resources they can use while at the reunion and later.

So we can set the Reunion officially for :

August 12 (Friday) noon through August 14 (Sunday) afternoon.

Tentative Schedule:

Friday, August 12

Noon to 2:00 Registration at the Genealogy Department

2:00 Opening meeting. Settling details for the reunion. Minutes

2:30 Tours of the facilities and introduction of staff

4:00 Orientation to family tree research — staff

6:00 Supper and evening program downtown

Saturday, August 13

9:00 to noon Individual and small group use of research facilities in Genealogy Department

Noon to 1:30 Lunch out downtown; great variety of eateries

2:00 Meeting in Discovery Center.

Presentations

Sharing of photos, stories, family tree issues and questions

5:00 Supper nearby downtown

7:00 Group attending the baseball game at park (2 blocks away from library)

Sunday, August 14

Morning On your own. Many churches within easy walking distance

1:00 to 4:00 Informal discussion, group meetings in Discovery Center

Again, anyone interested in planning or attending the reunion can contact me:

More in one or more emails with attachments to follow.

HESTON Family Reunion Part - 3

On Sunday, May 15, 2016 6:25 PM, Earl Kumfer wrote:

Hi, Martin.

Update on Heston descendant file. I now have 2692 persons.

Attached are a few PDF files to share with anyone interested in coming to the Reunion:

The first is the floor plan of the Allen County Public Library’s Genealogy Department. It is a full city block long. More information can be found on the library’s public website.

The next two are a map of the downtown area with restaurants and hotels and other interesting sites shown on the map and described in more detail on the second sheet.

One recommendation is not shown on the map or list. It is the “Lasalle Bed & Breakfast”, which is only four city blocks from the library. Its room range from $102 to $150 per night with free breakfast and plenty of gathering spaces. I am speaking with the owners to see if we can get a Reunion group discount.

For all accommodations, I suspect those who come would make their own arrangements through internet browsing or shopping through any of several review and discounts websites.

Questions!

1. Would attendees be open to going as a group to a night baseball game if we get group tickets?

2. Would attendees probably attend church on Sunday morning and want a listing of various denominations times of services?

3. Would attendees be interested in a group meal at a good restaurant or a smorgasbord?

4. Did you have pre-registration on line?

5. Was there a registration fee?

6. Do you know of anyone who would want to make a presentation?

7. What activities might be expected by those who attended before?

More later,

Earl

BEFORE OUR WEBSITE

I am Martin J. BELLARD, a HESTON Family descendant. My four-great-grandparents are John BALLARD (or BELLARD) and Sarah HESTON, the great-granddaughter of Zebulon HESTON and Dorothy HUTCHINSON. I began my Genealogy Research in AUG 1970 when I was a young teenager. I first found out, in DEC 1998, about my HESTON Family ancestors. And I found out, in DEC 2000, about our cousin John P. HESTON, the Editor and Publisher of the HESTON HISTORIAN newsletters and directories written from 1957 to 1961, as well as the three Annual National HESTON Family Reunions which he had organized - 1959 in Pennsylvania, 1960 in Iowa, and 1961 in California.

I became so inspired by the work of John P. HESTON, that I decided to become actively involved with the HESTON Family with Newsletters and Reunions. The first thing that I did was to research thru several of the past years of EVERTON'S GENEALOGICAL HELPER Magazine which annually lists Family Associations, Family Newsletters, and Family Reunions. To my dismay, I discovered nothing listed for the HESTON Family.

So, on JAN 7, 2001 Sunday evening, I established the HESTON FAMILY ASSOCIATION with plans for future Newsletters and Reunions. This is all from the inspiration by the work of John P. HESTON (1911 - 1970), of Allen Park, Michigan. This began with a listing which I placed in the Everton's Genealogical Helper in their MAR/APR 2001 issue. I placed another listing for the HESTON FAMILY ASSOCIATION in the EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY (Magazine's new name) in their MAR/APR 2002 issue.
