Herrick Family Association Annual MeetingIn Albany, NY Our annual meeting will be held in the downtown Hampton Inn located at 25 Chapel St. in Albany, NY. We will have dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings. Richard Herrick will be available in the Hampton Inn for research consultations. Meetings All meetings will be held at the downtown Hampton Inn. The annual meeting of the Herrick Family Association will be at 3 PM on Saturday September 26, 2009. Research Our primary research location will be the State Library and Archives in Albany which is located several blocks from the hotel. The library hours are Monday to Friday from 9 to 5. The library is closed on Saturday and Sunday. There are other interesting research locations in the vicinity. Cooperstown, NY has a library with a fairly large collection of Herrick books and information. Southern Vermont is not too far away for research. Lodging Discounted rooms are available at the Hampton Inn. The Hampton Inn offers 2 restaurants, complimentary breakfast, and valet parking for $12.50 per day. They do not have an airport shuttle. Our banquet and reception will be catered by Yono's that is located in the hotel. Reservations are required for the banquet and reception so that we can accurately plan for the crowd. Other Activities and Places or Interest The Albany Institute of History and Art is located near the State Library and Archives and the Hampton Inn. On Saturday September 26, Albany is hosting a free festival celebrating the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's arrival at the future Albany during his exploration of the Hudson River. The festival is all day in the Riverfront Park and will include tours of the replica of Hudson's ship the Half Moon. Cooperstown, NY is about an hour and a half away. The drive includes beautiful scenery. The NYSHA in Cooperstown has a significant collection of Herrick papers and information. The Baseball Hall of Fame is located in Cooperstown and is open from 9 to 5 daily. There are several cemeteries nearby where Colonel Sam Herrick's descendants are buried. There is one that has a marker for Colonel Sam Herrick honoring him as a Revolutionary War patriot. The Bennington Museum is about an hour away in Bennington, VT. The library contains information about Herricks. The plat maps are very interesting. The museum has a small but very nice art collection. Bennington also has a monument honoring the Revolutionary War Patriots. |
