From: Patrick and Marion Ramsay March 1998
Greetings from North Queensland in Australia. My name is Marion Sinclair Ramsay. I am the daughter of John Joseph McAteer born in Newry on 19 October 19XX. My mother was Euphemia (Martin) McAteer born in Dumbarton, Scotland in 19XX. I know a little of the family history, but I am very interested in making contact with any relations that might be able to help me learn more! My fathers mother was Sarah McClory (from Newry I think). She married Patrick McAteer. They both emigrated to America, but returned to Ireland sometime later. They then settled in Bells Hill near Glasgow. My parents met and married in America, returning to Scotland some time shortly before WW2. My parents emigrated to Australia in 19XX and settled in Adelaide, South Australia. My parents both came from large families and I know we have relations in America, Scotland and Ireland. I have two bother's and a sister who still live in Adelaide. I don't know how much information to include, so for now I'll sign off and hope to hear from a McAteer soon.
Regards and Hello to all the McAteer's who may read this, Marion.

Ken,
Great to hear from you. My McAteers came over to America in the late 1700s and settled in the Lancaster area of SC. They moved from there to Alabama before the Civil War (1860) and have been there (Pickens County, AL-1/2 hour west of Tuscaloosa) ever since. My maternal grandmother was a McAteer. Send me your address and I will mail you what I have on my line of McAteers. I have only run into two other people researching the McAteers in the South and am glad to make contact with anyone interested. I will look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Mitch

Hello, Cousin Brian!
I can't tell you how excited I was to receive your e-mail! I went over to our Clan's website and was totally thrilled with it! I can't wait to tell this information to my father!
Let me tell you about myself and what I know of our branch of the family.
My name is Ann McTeer Davis. I was born on XXXX in Garden Grove. My father is Donald Gene McTeer. (By the way, I was taught to always put two lines beneath the "c" in McTeer. Can't do that on the computer, unfortunately, but I always do so when hand writing my name. My father says this has something to do with our Clan rank, he isn't sure what. But his father taught him to do so, and so he taught me. And so I am teaching my son, Joel McTeer Davis!)
My father was born on XXXX in Oklahoma. He is the son of Anthony Varnes Ellsworth McTeer, who died in XXXX. My grandfather was a miner in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. He worked for the Eagle Pitcher Mine Company, but he was also a union organizer. The owners of the mines did not appreciate this, to say the least. More than once, men armed with pick axe handles came to my grandfather's house to dissuade him of his unionizing ways. On one occasion, my grandmother, Vera, drove two such men away with a butcher knife she'd been using to cut up a chicken. She was English, but she must have been Irish at heart, she was so brave. Vera died this past September, may she rest in peace. Tony was a wonderful man who smiled easily and loved children, my father tells me. It is one of the everlasting sorrows of my life that I never got to know him. Still, his kind heart lives on in my father, and his sense of right and working to end oppression inspires his descendants to this day.
Tony was born in XXXX in Missouri. His father's name was John McTeer. I don't know very much about John, except that he died around 19XX, and that he had owned land around Texas. He was a rancher. After he and his wife died, their children spent the rest of their growing up in a Masonic orphanage in Missouri. Beyond this part of the family, I do not know.
My father has 3 brothers and a sister still living. Their youngest brother, Paul, died as an infant. Guess what all the brothers do for a living? They are carpenters! My father is retired now, due to health problems, else he would be working still. He can drive a row of 3 penny nails into a board with a single strike, quick as wink. One of the loveliest memories from my childhood is sitting on my father's lap when he'd come home from work. He always smelled of sawdust; now sawdust smells more sweet to me than all the perfumes of Paris. My father is musical, too, as are all good Irishmen (and all good Mhac an t'Saoirs!). He sings like an angel.
I hope I haven't written too much - there's a world more I could write, if given the chance. I'm putting a list of our family tree on this page. Thank you so much for writing to me - however did you find me? I'm so happy you did!
Sincerely,
Your Cousin,
Ann McTeer Davis

Greetings from Houston, Texas. While researching my own family roots, I have learned of McAteer relations. Is anyone in the clan from a town called Drumard? I have letters referring to such a place. I also could possibly contribute information about McAteers in the U.S. Would love to hear from anyone anytime!

My name is Michael McAteer and I was born in Philadelphia in 1955. My grandfather was born around 1910 either in Ireland or Philadelphia. He died in 1955, I didn't know my father well until late in life and he's dead too, so I don't know anything about my Irish roots.
My Grandfather was a professional boxer in the 1930's, achieved a bit of noteriety to the degree that it may have been known in his or his parents hometown in Ireland. His fighting name was "Spike McAteer".
My father moved from Philadelphia to Los Angeles and became a transportation coordinator for the film industry. I moved to L.A. in 1991 from Philly and worked as a crew member on the TV show "Baywatch" before going over to the Dick Van Dyke series, "Diagnosis Murder" where I work now. If anyone has any information on any McAteer's who moved to the Philadelphia area around the turn of the century please let me know.
Thank you,
Michael McAteer

My name is Kevin Bryan McAteer. My adress is 3490 Indian Ridge Circle, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362. My phone number is (805)241-0992 in the United States. E-mail is Kevinbmca@aol.com.
I am working on my family tree and am very interested in finding my Irish roots. My father's name was Arthur Frances McAteer. He was born in Camden, New Jersey in November, 1934. His father's name was Henry Arthur McAteer. He was born on August 8, 1908 and died in October, 1955. He died in Camden, NJ. His father's name was also Henry Arthur McAteer. This Henry married a Margaret McCarty(my great-grandmother) in Philadelphia, PA on June 4, 1904. This Henry was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on May 12, 1880. I am interested in going back farther to find out which ancestors came from Ireland, which area they were from and when they emigrated to the U.S.
I look forward to visiting your web site and learning more about Clan McAteer

I'm searching for my maternal McATEER roots. According to the London 1881 census, that included my grfather age 3mos., listed the following as from Co. Down: Patrick McAteer, age 30, head, carpenter, b. cir1851 grgrfather Margaret McAteer, age 67,mother, widow, b.cir1814 grgrgrmother Michael McAteer, age 32, head, carpenter, b. cir1849 brother Mary McAteer, age 33, wife, dressmaker, b. cir1848 Barnard McAteer, age 5, son, b. cir1876
My grandfather was married in the Catholic church. I'm guessing that all were born in Co. Down, Michael & Mary and Margaret & my grgrgrfather (no name) were married in Down. Patrick m, Johanna DONOGAN, age 25, Co.Cork, possibly in London. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
