CHILDERS ~ CHILDRES ~ CHILDRESS

The name Childers was first used by England's ancient Anglo-Saxon culture and derived from the Old English word cildra-hus, which means children's house or orphanage.

The name originates from when the family lived  in or near an orphanage; however the location or specific orphanage is unknown.

The surname Childers may have also been a nickname for an orphan, or is occupational in nature applied to someone who ran an orphanage.
