Notes for Anna Margaret PONTIUS
Anna Margaret Pontius was born in Michigan City, Illinois (which is now Chicago), on July 9, 1859. At the age of nine she came with her parents, Nicholas and Mary Pontius, and settled in Todd County. They occupied the farm which Uncle John Dinkel later lived on. The mother died when Anna was still young.

On June 3, 1879 she married Frederick Dinekl in Long Prairie, MN. They had nine children that grew to adulthood: Helen, John, Frank, Louis, Theresa, Minnie, Clementine, George and Isabelle. Three daughters died in infancy.

Anna sewed and tied quilts and braided rugs. All of her rugs were made from old wool coats, pants, skirts and dresses. She also was a mid-wife and delivered hundreds of babies. Somtimes she traveled many miles to do so.

She died January 1937 in her home hwere she was found by her son, George. She had been stricken with a heart attack.
