Notes for Conrad Francis BOTZ
Dad often walked through woods, pasture and fields. He carried a 22 rifle or picked up a walking stick. If one was lucky enough to tag along, much as learned abut nature. He'd pick and bring to Mom a bunch of wildflowers - crocuses, cowslips, honeysuckles, wild roses, violets, pussy willows or bittersweet. If wild strawberries were in sesason, he'd bring some home in his hat. If he found a hidden nest of chicken eggs, he'd carry them to the house in his pocket or hat. Occasionally, the eggs didn't fare too well. 43
Conrad was the clerk of Sauk Centre Twp, Member of Sauk Lake Creamery, and Farm Bureau. And was a member and held offices in Farmer's Club, the Fair Board, and the McCormick Lake Telephone Co.43
During Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration, he measured wheat fields for the government. To do this he used a device which he devised consisting of a bicycle wheel and a clicker. By counting the number of revolutions of the wheel, he was able to determine the number of acres in a wheat field to the tenth of an acre.43
