Charles Hendry, b. 1797 to Isaac Hendry and Elizabeth Lowery, settled in what is known today as "Hendrysburg, OH". The town is situated in Belmont County, not too far from the West Virginia state line.

Charles married Eleanor Burgee and as a newly wed couple, journeyed to Ohio. Charles soon opened a steam flouring mill and hired Mr. Briggs to survey the land and lay out a town. He called the town "Hendrysburg" in honor of his name.

Charles and Eleanor stayed only a few short years in Hendrysburg. From about 1825-26 to about 1831-31. In that short span of time, Charles managed to help build this small town. Land lots were sold almost as soon as they became available. Churches, schools and merchantiles were opened very quickly, but Charles and Eleanor decided to move back to Frederick County, MD. where her parents resided.

A chlolera outbreak in Ohio prompted the couple to return to Maryland. Here, Charles and Elenaor expanded their family. In total, Charles and Elenaor had 8 children: viz:
Nathaniel, Jane E. , Charles, Jr. , Anna Rebecca , Martha C. , Amanada Sarah , Isaac Singleton , Emily C.

Source of information came from Belmont County Library and Bruce Burgee Geibel, who has written a book on the Burgee family.
