The following letter was written by Vachel Davis Johnson to his wife.
It contains a note to William Stone. William Stone & Vachel Davis Johnson married sisters, Lecy and Malinda RATLIFF. All four are buried at Stone Family Cemetery, Proctor, Comanche County, Texas.
Fayett County Texas March the 21, 1863Dear Lecy
I take this oportunity to write you a few lines. I am at Mr. Pollard, sick but I think I am getting well. I received your letter yesterday eavening dated Feb.the 22. It gave me great satisfaction to hear that you were all well. We are dismounted and ordered to Rio grand I suppose our horses is to start home this eaven or in the morning. I sent my saddle bridle and blanket and spears and my over coat, Janes coat and vest. The Boys that goes with the horses will give you all the news. Write often.
