Our British cousin and Henden family historian, Graham P. Steer, has kindly shared some of his Counsell family research with me. Richard and Josias Hendon's grandmother was Dinah Counsell, who is believed to have perished during the voyage to America circa 1700 with other members of her family. The Counsell family resided in the Barrow Gurney area of Somerset, England and Graham believes some Counsells were possibly in that county as early as 1089.

Dinah Counsell Hendon was the daughter of the Reverend William Counsell, Rector of Marksbury, Somerset. A memorial wall at St. Peter's Church at Marksbury is dedicated to the Counsell family....

Revd. William Counsell, M.A. Rector of Marksbury 1662-1674, who died April 25, 1674  Aged 64. His wife, Jane, who died March 18, 1668 Aged 57. And their son, Solomon, who died July 28, 1668  Aged 17.
